How accurate is the rock and crystal identifier?
It depends on the specimen, so here are our real numbers. In our most recent test — 76 specimens run through the live tool, including a set chosen specifically because they are easy to mix up — every identification it labelled “Confident” turned out to be right, all 22 of them. Across all 76, including the deliberately hard ones, it was right about two thirds of the time, and it lowered its confidence and offered alternatives on the rest. That is the point: the badge tells you which kind of answer you have. No photo identification is certain, so every result also comes with simple tests you can run yourself.

Can AI really identify a rock from a photo?
For many common specimens, yes — color, luster, crystal habit and texture are often enough. But some minerals look almost identical in a photo, which is why we always give you simple at-home tests (streak, hardness, magnetism, acid fizz) to confirm the result.
